Overview

Nestled in the charming Marina Del Rey at 3700 Pacific Ave, Frankin It Up is more than just a hamburger joint—it’s a culinary experience that redefines the art of the burger. This local gem specializes in smash burgers crafted from premium Wagyu beef, offering a satisfying balance of flavor and texture that immediately sets it apart from typical burger spots in Los Angeles.

The crown jewel of the menu—the Wagyu Smash Burger—is a masterclass in simplicity and quality. Each burger features a perfectly seared patty that retains juicy tenderness, paired with gourmet ingredients such as Muenster cheese, crisp lettuce, and house-made sauces, all layered on a soft brioche bun. The attention to detail is palpable with every bite. For those seeking variety, the Maygu Smash Burger and the classic hot dog also offer equally indulgent and thoughtfully prepared alternatives.

Dining at Frankin It Up is not just about the food but also the atmosphere. The location benefits from Marina Del Rey’s scenic coastal vibes, providing a tranquil and welcoming setting that invites both locals and visitors to linger. The space is intimate yet well-appointed, perfect for casual meals or quiet evenings. Owner Jeff’s passion shines through, often engaging with customers and elevating the experience beyond the plate. Whether you’re stopping by at sunset with music softly playing or enjoying one of Jeff’s rotating weekly specials, there’s a genuine warmth that makes this more than just a restaurant.

The menu is complemented by standout sides like the blistered Spudballs—new potatoes steamed, blistered, and dusted with parmesan and seasonings—which perfectly accompany the bold flavors of the burgers. The option to add chips and a drink rounds out the meal seamlessly, making it easy to enjoy a complete, satisfying bite.

Frankin It Up caters to a broad audience. It appeals to food enthusiasts eager to savor high-quality beef, locals who appreciate a neighborhood culinary treasure, and anyone seeking a relaxed yet refined burger spot in Marina Del Rey. The gluten-free bun option also shows thoughtful inclusiveness toward dietary preferences.

Customer testimonials underscore the consistent excellence and community spirit. From travelers willing to drive miles for these burgers to neighborhood regulars celebrating Jeff’s generosity during local events, the loyalty is heartfelt and well-earned. This burger is by far the best burger I’ve ever had is clean. The meat is excellent quality. The lettuce is phenomenal and the cheese is gourmet. There’s nothing cheap in this burger and it’s all worth every dollar. I cannot speak highly enough of this burger. I would go 100 miles in a second across Los Angeles just to have this burger. Could you not? Not only that it’s situated and beautiful Marina del Rey, which is known to be the secret of Los Angeles. I had a very simple double patty smash burger with a gluten-free bun, which was excellent. I can only imagine how good it would be with a regular bun. There’s a nice little table to sit at beautiful ambiance and quiet. Dang I’m only done 3/4 of this burger and I want another one. Correction, I will drive all the way from Las Vegas to get one of these. I went to this location, a second time and it was absolutely phenomenal again. This time I had some potatoes with my burger and both were absolutely amazing.. usually when I go for the second time, sometimes it’s not as good but this place is definitely there to impress. If you haven’t tried this out, you really need to. It is Los Angeles’s best kept secret. And this time when it got dark, I had a little bit of light at the table which just added to the already timeless atmosphere. And every time I go there, I meet somebody new who is just as awesome.

Seriously, if you live in Marina del Rey and haven't been to Frankin It Up yet, you're missing out on something special. I've been a regular for a while now, and honestly, it's become a local favorite for me and my friends. The "Big Wag" burger is genuinely incredible – no wonder Jason Kelce loves it, it's ruined other burgers for me! And it's not just the burgers; their chicken sandwich is my wife’s favorite. It's the kind of place you're happy to have right in the neighborhood, run by great people. What I love most is that it's a fantastic local business right here in MDR, and Jeff, the owner, truly cares about his food and customers. We absolutely need to support awesome spots like this! I actually wonJeff's 10-person BBQ giveaway recently! We had the most amazing time. Jeff catered it, and of course, the burgers (even the veggie one) were a massive hit with everyone. He even included a delicious homemade cheesecake that was out of this world! It was such a generous and memorable experience, all thanks to Jeff. If you're looking for amazing food and want to support a truly great local spot where the owner goes above and beyond, definitely check out Frankin It Up. You won't regret it. The food is top-notch, and Jeff is clearly passionate about what he does. Go try it – you’ll be so glad you did!

Stopped by as the sun was setting and it was getting cooler. Jeff had some great music playing and invited me up to his table. I went for the chefs choice which was a Louisiana style link with the trimmings. I initially thought it was a made up location but it ended up being great food and conversation with the owner so the next time I’m in the area I’ll definitely stop by again.

We live just down the street and decided after many walks by to finally give Frankin It Up a try. Wish we had done it sooner! The burger was GREAT, far exceeded my expectations and hands down the best burger in this area. Was thrilled to learn that Jeff, the friendly and kind owner, serves up more than just burgers with a rotating menu every week. A local staple and favorite - go support and try his food!! The perfect spot if you live in the neighborhood or just looking for a good casual bite during a beach day.

Corner grill bliss! This street-side Wagyu burger joint blows In-N-Out out of the water. Juicy, perfectly seared patties with classic sauce and toasted buns—familiar style, wildly elevated flavor. No drive-thru needed when paradise is on the corner. Absolute must-try.

Been here a few times now. For street food? What the hell. WOW. Let's get into it. Ok do you like dogs and burgers? Look no further. The chef has such a great attitude. Lively, happy outgoing and professional. Then when you see that? His food comes from the soul. I've had a few things here. But what makes this food cart special is the menu changes. Other than the dogs and burgers. But he's always got specials, such as. Pork belly Mac n cheese like what!? Sign me up. Pastas and more! The hot dogs. Fresh, cooked to the perfect temperature. Get all your fixings. Peppers, onions, mustard, relish, ketchup, hot Cheeto dust, cheese? Oh yeah! You can load it up if you want to and it's quite the experience. Burgers. Ok I'm not kidding when I say this. I don't really like smash burgers. It makes them loose the flavor usually. HOWEVER this time!? That is NOT the case. I'm not sure how he does it but I'll always come back for this burger. The BREAD omg the bread as well! SO good. Seasoned VERY well. Veggies, lettuce and pickles all fresh. So would I recommend this spot? Hell yeah. You will NOT be disappointed. This is a hidden gem of LA. He's fairly new to the social media game so support this great food! Hope you all enjoy.

Best burger on the west side - dare I say all of LA? Love the laid back atmosphere but with that comes laid back hours. Sometimes he’s there, sometimes he’s not. I’ve come to accept that if you want quality food, lack of convenience and a few more dollars are the price you pay.
